About the Project

Recently I was looking through some of my family’s old photos and came across my 1990s yearbook portraits. My heart skipped a beat reminiscing about the glory days of neon and laser beams. In a flash of creative enlightenment, I knew what Max’s next portrait would be!

I created a simple set in my living room that consisted of a black ottoman (to mimic those school portrait armrests) and a solid color sheet to make it easy to remove the background in Photoshop.

To capture Max’s hilarious expressions, I used a super fast shutter speed and set my camera to continuous shoot. I gave Max a series of commands like, “speak,” “lick your lips,” and “smile” and snapped away.

I used these portraits on my annual Christmas cards, complete with stickers and address labels!
